Secretary General (UMUWA)
Lukman Primary School is one of the projects of Uganda Muslim welfare association (UMWA), a Muslim Non – government organization (NGO) registered in Uganda, to do Islamic charitable work. It was founded and registered in the year 1997.
There was great need to prepare a young generation that will inspire the Ummah. A generation trained to be spiritually enlightened and have moral uprightness and with relevant knowledge of the dynamics of the material world required for competence, development and success.
By 1995, it was realized that almost 98% of the children of the middle class earners and rich were taken to secular schools which did not any Islamic knowledge at all. The reason for this was that Madarasa schools were still in very bad shape both academically and spiritually.
The circumstances forced UMUWA to improvise and put up a programme for such learners to acquire Islamic education during holidays. The “Holiday Islamic School Project” based at Makerere University mosque Kampala commenced during every vacation with the help of the Islamic teachers from some madarasa around Kampala. Little was known to them, that these programs would mushroom into a fully fledged and effective Islamic school.
Alhamdulillah through various efforts, in February 2004, Lukman Primary School was started with an enrolment of about twelve (12) pupils distributed in four classes (P.1 – P.4). As of to date, we have over 1000 pupils P. 1 to P.7. Our dream is to make it the best Islamic institution in the country and across the region In shaa Allah.
